Alpe d'Huez Ski Holidays

There are few places that rival the Alpe D’Huez area for its size and variety of terrain. Ski chalets, apartments and hotels are all available to book for those perfect Alpe D'Huez ski holidays. The resort is large and modern, built on a high sunny mountainside. It has been nicknamed L’lle au Soleil – the Island in the Sun.  It is a popular town with many for its breathtaking scenery. The resort spreads in a triangular shape from the main lift station in the top corner. The central area of the resort is the Avenue des Jeux where the swimming pool, ice skating, shops and bars are located. The more traditional part of the village is at the bottom end of the resort.

Alpe d'Huez Skiing and Boarding

Alpe D’Huez ranks alongside Val D’Isere and La Plagne for its extent and variety of slopes. The slopes are divided into four main sections that have good connections between them. There are plenty of green runs just above the village for beginners. Good intermediates have a fantastic selection of runs throughout the area. The Canyon is one of the more challenging to test your legs on. There are also some lovely reds to Vaujany. Strong intermediates will enjoy the Sarenne which is the longest black run in Europe. It is quite a steep run, sometimes mogully at the start then a lovely cruisy ride down. Experts will love the moguls beneath the Pic Blanc cable car but try not to ski it first thing as it can get icy! The off piste is vast with a huge area to explore with a guide. There is lots of fun to be had off the sides of the Sarenne and for the more experienced the Grand Sablat runs through the wilderness off the Massif de Grandes Rousses. Definitely hire a guide though for any off piste adventures you are planning.  There are two terrain parks for boarders with various jumps and rollers. Cross country skiers will enjoy 50Km of trails with three loops.

Alpe d'Huez Apres Ski

There is a wide variety of bars to suit all tastes and a few British run bars in the chalet hotels. The Sphere bar is a lively and popular choice once the lifts have closed and the Pacific is also good. The Grotte du Yeti offers live music. Alpe D’Huez has a wide range of facilities to occupy you off the slopes such as the indoor pool, large outdoor pool, ice rink and sports centre that are all covered by your lift pass. You should also try the ice driving school and toboggan run for something different. If this isn’t enough for you then try the air boarding and snow biking. For non skiers there is a pedestrian lift pass available for the walking trails.
